Use a different machine to access the current site, or add/remove the hosts file entry as needed to access one site or the other. Even if it is in use, if you have no need to access it from the XAMPP machine, I’d still use it as the server name. If the eventual domain name is not already in use, I recommend using it as your server name so you don’t have to fuss with changing all the name references on the site. Changing the server name to the proper domain name gets a bit involved, but this is unrelated to whether its a subdirectory installation or not. There’s nothing unusual in moving a localhost site to a Linux VPS. You don’t need a server alias, but you can use the For document root, supply the full path to the directory that should serve as the virtual server’s public root. in your XAMPP installation directory, in the apps/wordpress subdirectory. dev extension, then do so when you specify the server name. You can now begin installing WordPress on top of XAMPP by following these. You can use any name you want for the server. Either way, you need a vhosts file to register the server name with XAMPP. If the new WP will be accessed with its own server name, why does it need to be in a subdirectory of another site? It seems like it’d make sense to be in its own subdirectory below htdocs. Since the server name is already setup there’s nothing else that needs to be done. Do you wish to access the new WP directly with its own server name or as a subdirectory of the existing site’s server name? If the latter, you just install WP and include the subdirectory as part of the home and site URL. You want to install WP in a subdirectory of another WP site? OK, it’s a subdirectory installation regardless. We have previously moved such sites successfully but this site would be the first to have WordPress installed also in a subdirectory and not sure if that complicates anything. So, any insight about such a move appreciated. It is planned to move it to a Linux based public VPS when vetted. This localhost install is on a Win10Pro workstation. Which adds the next question of, should I include the “.dev” part in the aforementioned entries? Thanks in advance. Also, what would be the proper syntax for the lines: ServerName and ServerAlias in those entries? I normally name those multiple names as v. Not sure what settings to make given it is a new WordPress install in a subdirectory of a localhost WordPress install on XAMPP and, not sure of the proper syntax for the any # entries in the xampp/apache/conf/extra/httpd-vhosts file, and any other files. Now trying to install WordPress into a subdirectory on one of those existing installs. Have multiple WordPress installs working great on localhost XAMPP install on Win10Pro workstation.
